microneedling Pre and Post Treatmment Instructions

Pre-Treatment

Please review and adhere to the following pre-treatment guidelines in preparation for your microneedling appointment. The following restrictions are in place to minimize the risk for any potential complications:

  • Absolutely no sun exposure or sunless tanner use on treatment area(s). If skin appears to be sun exposed or sunless tanner has been used, the treatment will be rescheduled. It is best to avoid direct sun and tanning beds for a minimum of 7 days before your treatment.
  • Discontinue the following products 7 days prior to treatment:
  • Salicylic acid
  • Glycolic acid
  • Retinol / Retinoic acid
  • Aspirin

Please notify your provider if:

  • You are prone to cold sores.
  • If you have had other skin rejuvenation procedures in the past month, please discuss with your treatment provider. Procedures need to have adequate time spacing between them to avoid complications.
  • If you have had cosmetic injections in the last 6 weeks.

Post-Treatment Instructions

  • 2-4 hours post microneedling treatment, the full effects of numbing cream will dissipate, and skin may sting like a sunburn sensation. Tylenol can be taken if needed.
  • Redness and possible mild swelling can be expected following treatment. With most treatments, redness lasts for 1-2 days. Light peeling and flaking can occur 2-3 days post treatment. Peeling may last 2-3 days. During this time, continue with your post treatment kit. Keep skin well hydrated. Do not pick, scratch, or scrub peeling skin as this can cause post treatment complications.
  • Avoid hot water, swimming, hot tubs, jacuzzies, steam rooms, saunas, yoga, and exercise requiring excessive sweating for 5 days following treatment or until skin is fully healed.
  • Avoid direct sun exposure following treatment as this can lead to complications. It is important to remember that sun exposure to the treatment area(s) should be avoided through the treatment course. When outdoors, please use SPF30 or higher to protect your skin.
  • Non-irritating or mineral makeup can be used after 48 hours. If irritation or sensitivity occurs with use, please discontinue and contact your treatment provider. Tinted SPF is a great alternative.
  • Follow your post procedure skincare kit for the next 5-7 days.
  • Resume use of retinol, tretinoin, glycolic acid, salicylic acid, bleaching creams, toners, and other routine skin products 7 days post treatment if the skin is completely healed.
  • Avoid dermaplaning and waxing the treatment area(s) for 14 days post treatment.
  • For best results, 4 treatments are recommended every 4-6 weeks.
