Filler Pre and Post Treatmment Instructions

Pre-Treatment

Please review and adhere to the following pre-treatment guidelines in preparation for your filler appointment. The following restrictions are in place to minimize the risk for any potential complications:

  • If you can, please come to your appointment with a clean face, free of make-up.
  • Avoid alcohol and caffeinated beverages at least 24 hours prior to your appointment to reduce the risk of bruising.
  • There are medications and supplements that increase your risk of bruising and/or swelling. Do not stop prescribed medications without discussing with your ordering physician. 
  • Recommended supplements to avoid 7 days prior to your appointment:
  • NSAIDs: Aspirin, Advil, Motrin, Aleve  
  • Fish oil
  • Vitamin E
  • Ginkgo Biloba
  • St. John’s Wart

Please notify your provider if:

  • You have had immunizations, medical procedures, illness, or infection in the past 2 weeks.
  • You are prone to cold sores.
  • You had an adverse event with previous injectables.
  • You have any vacations or special events planned in the next 2 weeks.
  • If you have had other cosmetic injections in the desired treatment area.

Post-Treatment Instructions

  • Do not schedule a dental or medical procedure for 2 weeks.
  • Do not schedule a cosmetic procedure that breaks the skin barrier for 6-8 weeks.
  • Avoid touching or massaging the treated area(s).
  • Avoid exercise for 48 hours.
  • Do not apply makeup for 24 hours.
  • Sleep with your head elevated to minimize swelling.
  • Avoid extreme heat or cold exposure for 48 hours (sauna, tanning bed, cold plunge, etc.).
  • Treat skin gently, no scrubbing or mechanical exfoliation for 48 hours. 
  • To avoid infection, avoid makeup for 24 hours.
  • It is common to have bruising, tenderness, and swelling after a treatment. You may apply Arnica as directed by your provider.
